AustinFanzineProject.org is LIVE!!

Whew! I just finished some fun/tedious/exciting/frustrating/interesting/boring webwork and have produced yet another digital thing: AustinFanzineProject.org. There you will find not only this very blog, but also other pages which (I hope) will serve as a more logical one-stop project planning/execution/tracking/presentation space.

And speaking of execution, I have another goody for y’all this evening: Geek Weekly #1!* The new website has a quick-loading page for JPGs, and a slower-loading, higher-quality page for PDFs, which facilitates zooming and downloading. Everyone is encouraged to download the PDFs under the Creative Commons license and the lots-of-copies-keeps-stuff-safe principle.

The next step for the project will be to, um, “hook up” the transcription software to the digitized images. Part of this project is getting to learn some new tools and, obviously, I have a lot to learn. Stay tuned!

Other updates:

  • I added a Policy on Copyrights & Permissions and I would very much like feedback from copyright specialists (from whatever field) about how I can improve it. For now, the copyright situation is somewhat simple (there is some risk involved, of course), but when the pool of material grows, the risk will too. At the end of the day, I’m relying on permission from people I can find, DIY/punk brotherhood and goodwill, and the fact that this is a money-losing operation, and I’m only in it for the cultural history.
  • You may have noticed that I revamped the donation button, in order to provide some transparency to the fundraising arm of this operation (aka the donation button).
  • I’m looking for volunteers who see some interesting facet in this project that they would enjoy pursuing, so holler if you have anything you want to share.

* Here begins The Great Mortification of Jennifer Hecker, wherein my youthful ramblings, naîve rantings and ridiculous punk posing will be broadcast to the world (and more specifically to my chagrin, to my professional colleagues) in a way not possible/easy in 1994 (read more on that hereherehere & a million other places). Don’t worry, now I’m old & cynical like you.
